Our Story

“Plan Sponsors
were looking for
someone they
could trust”

Welcome to Comperio

I believe it is important for companies to understand why Comperio was established and the reason we are designed the way we are. First, I think it is helpful to provide some context of the 401(k) industry and the challenges and concerns facing plan sponsors!

My career began at Fidelity Investments, the largest recordkeeper and investment manager in the 401(k) industry.  During this time, many plan sponsors used a recordkeeper who distributed their own funds/investments and relied on either their recordkeeper or a broker in the selection and monitoring of their plan’s investments.

In the early 2000’s, I began to see things changing.  Many plan sponsors and their committee members were struggling with investment decisions, as well as oversight of their plan.  In addition, sponsors began to see there were hidden fees or conflicts within these firms. Plan sponsors were looking for someone they could trust.

I founded Comperio in 2006 in order to provide the trust that sponsors were seeking. The Comperio name was chosen since it means to “fully disclose” in Latin.  I built the firm to be truly independent. We have no affiliation with any banks, brokers, fund companies, recordkeepers, insurance/benefit or wealth management firms. We articulate clearly and in writing our fiduciary responsibilities. In doing so, our interests are perfectly aligned with our clients and their plan participants.

Throughout the home page you see the formula of Independence x Customization because our firm is built on providing independent expert advice customized to each client’s needs.

As opposed to a cookie cutter approach utilizing solely the 3 F’s (Funds, Fees, and Fiduciary), we take a more holistic view, focusing on adapting to individual clients’ needs. Our reason for existence, our commitment to earning your trust will remain as steadfast today as it was the day I founded the firm.
